Cetaceans inhabit all of the worlds oceans. They are smart, graceful, powerful and have the power to change someone's life. There are around 90 species of cetaceans. They range in size from the 5 ft. 100 lbs. Commerson's dolphin, to the 100 ft. Blue whale. The Order Cetacea is broken down into two categories, Mysticeti and Odontoceti. All captive cetaceans held world wide belong to the sub-order odotoceti. Click the pictures bellow or navigate the top menu to look at all the cetaceans held currently around the world. Lags, Dolphins, and Sea Lions sections are under construction, but will be up soon. I will only put up the dolphins in the parks that have killer whales, but if you want me to put up dolphin info from a park you love then just email me and ask and i will put it up! Thanks for stopping by!

Nootka Died-January 15, 2008
Marineland had lost its matriarch killer whale. Nootka 5 died January 8. She had been at the popular tourist attraction for more than 27 years. "We were heartbroken, absolutely heartbroken," said Marineland spokeswoman Ann Marie Rondinelli. "We don’t like to play favourites but she was definitely loved by everybody," she said. The female killer whale was believed to be around 40 years old (note: she was actually around 30 years old and Marineland knows it!) and had given birth to a number of calves over the years (note: none of whom survived). Marineland is now awaiting the results of a necropsy. Nootka, named after the Native American tribe that lived in parts of British Columbia and Washington, was captured in Iceland in the fall of 1979 (note: that's often stated but actually incorrect; the Icelandic documents show that it was Kiska, who was captured in 1979; Nootka 5 was captured in October 1981).

Japan Intends to Capture Wild Orcas-December 9, 2007
Ten years after the last captures, there is credible information that orcas are expected to be captured again in Taiji, Japan, under the pretext of scientific research. NGO's are now preparing to send a formal letter to the Japanese authorities, asking them to deny the capture permit and to conduct a proper scientific population study of orcas in Japanese waters. According to the Japanese Fisheries Agency, 1200 orcas have been slaughtered in Japan since 1954. 20 were sold to dolphinariums and all but two of them died there, Nami and Ku being the lone survivors.

Tekoa Rammed his Trainer-October 8, 2007
A trainer at the Loro Parque theme park on Tenerife is in hospital after she was injured this weekend during a training session with one of the killer whales at the centre in Puerto de la Cruz. The Canarias 7 newspaper says the incident happened at the pre-show warm up on Saturday, when the orca crashed into the trainer, injuring her right lung and breaking her forearm in two places. She was rescued by two colleagues after the marine mammal dragged her down to the bottom of the pool. The trainer is now said to be stable after surgery on Saturday.

Note: The injured trainer is 29 years old biologist Claudia Vollhardt from Germany, who has worked at the park since 2003. Some news write that it was a male orca that hit the trainer and dragged her down after the impact. Then that same animal grabbed the trainer by the arm and brought her back up to the surface. Claudia trained mostly with young male Tekoa and some news refer to him as the orca involved int his incident.
